Cohana Fine Lacquer Scissors, Vermillion
$168.99
I've been asked if I can get these scissors. It takes being on a waiting list because they are exquisite hand-made works of art, slow to be produced and fast to sell out! I have acquired three pair this late August.
The blades are made by Mr. Hasegawa Cutlery in Seki City, Gifu Prefecture, one of Japan's leading cutlery towns. Hasegawa have been making edged tools in Japan since 1933. These are high quality blades.
Cohana is a Japanese brand renowned worldwide for making beautiful, high quality handicraft tools and these scissors are no exception. The lacquered handles are hand dipped and painted to build a deep vermillion red lacquered lustre with a wide gold band, then sealed with a clear layer for protection. Over the years you will enjoy the subtle colour change in the handles which is natural to a lacquer finish.
The scissors come with a real leather protective pouch, and a hand-tied gold and silver silk tassel wrapped. They are wrapped in a soft white cloth in a small wooden box. Use the cloth to polish your scissors and the lustre will last through the years.
Total length: 105mm. (4")
Width: 53mm (2")
Exquisite scissors with outstanding beauty and sharpness!
A note about the silk tassel:
The small silk tassels are carefully handmade by Imasato, a specialist in tassels and knots founded in 1907 and located in Yame, Fukuoka Prefecture. They have been making tassels for Chohin paper lanterns for over 100 years which are a traditional handicraft.
