This beautifully smooth and satisfyingly shaped wood darning egg is from Bohin, France. I imagine the traditional egg shape evolved for mending socks, the large end for heels, the narrow end for toes? Or maybe, the large end for adult socks and the narrow end for children's socks? However it came to be, has been the traditional shape of the mending egg since our grandmother's and their mother's before them were mending the family clothing.
It measures 3" long, 2" across.
