Table mats are a perfect way to use and display sashiko. The Asanoha-combined pattern on this mat is not as difficult as it appears but this is not a beginner project.
The pattern is printed on the fabric with wash away ink in stitch length markings. You simply stitch over the markings, then wash away the markings when you are finish all the stitching. (Do not iron until all the stitching is finished and washed or the print may not wash away.)

- You will need 3 - 20 meter skein of Olympus sashiko thread (or of the sashiko thread you prefer)
Note the fabric in the kit is twice the length of the design. You are meant to fold the plain half of the fabric under the printed half and stitch through both layers. If you bury your thread ends between the two layers of cloth both sides of the finished mat will show the stitched design nicely.
