Hanamari literally means “flower ball” or “flower sphere.”
- Hana (花) = flower
- Mari (鞠) = ball, traditionally a decorative or hand-played ball
In Japanese design, hanamari can describe a round, ball-like arrangement of flowers, especially a decorative motif where blossoms form a circular cluster. The mari part is related to the idea of a traditional Japanese ball, as in temari.
This placemat kit includes both classic traditional patterns and newly designed motifs inspired by tradition.
