What is Sakizome-momen?
Sakizome-momen fabric is a dyed yarn cotton fabric. Dyed yarn fabrics are made from yarn (threads) that have been dyed before the fabric is woven. This gives it interesting colour variations, plus it means the colour is embedded right through the cloth, not only on the surface so when it eventually fades the fade pattern is pleasing.
Note: I have two varieties of this cloth. This Olympus manufactured sakizome-momen is a high quality cloth (therefore more expensive). I would use it for special projects, for example for sashiko projects you will frame or display on walls, or for embroidery pictures. But by all means save any small scraps for mending!
Look for the other sakizome yarn dyed cloth in this collection for your utilitarian projects. It is a less expensive, durable, slightly coarser looking but also very appealing option.
