Indigo Blue Sashiko Panel.

This sashiko panel, designed by Susan Briscoe, is printed on indigo blue colour Japanese tsumugi cotton fabric in wash out ink.  You can just thread your sashiko needle with some sashiko thread and enjoy your stitching.

There are 8 ready to stitch traditional sashiko patterns. Each is 9" X 9" square.  In addition there are eight 4 1/2" small sashiko motifs.  The  individual blocks are marked with a cutting line and have a 3/8" seam allowance to make it easy to use them for quilts, table covers, clothing, bags or other project. If you choose to use the panel as a whole cloth, wall hanging, or for cushions or small quilts, there is no need to stitch the cutting lines markings, they will completely wash away after your stitching is finished.

 Fabric Care

This tsumugi fabric is an exceptional fine quality fabric. It is washable and will not bleed, fade or shrink.  I do shake it out while still a bit damp and hang it to finish drying because all cotton fabrics loose their health and beauty if over-dried or dried in hot air.

Notes

Ready to stitch preprinted sashiko patterns on tsumugi fabrics are available in several colours, in panels and smaller projects, and I have the matching plain tsumugi fabric also available. The tsumugi fabric colours are particularly beautiful when combined in the same project.

Tsumugi Fabrics

This Tsumugi fabric is made for Olympus in Japan.  It is a fine quality cotton version of the very expensive antique tsumugi silks of the past. The fabric is woven on a black warp with some soft slubby-ness. This creates the distinctive appearance of tsumugi cloth, and combined with the earthy tones of the weft thread colours, makes it similar in appearance to the original Japanese tsumugi cloth.
