Flat Head Project Pins. I think these are called purse pins because they are so useful when making purses, but they work for other applications also.
Use these pins in places where regular straight sewing pins don't work because the pieces are too thick to pin through. These can be especially helpful for mending multiple layers of thick fabrics and for hard to manipulate areas in fabric art projects.
How to use: Insert the pin through your thick pieces the push the cap onto the pin tip. It will lock on. It is possible to machine sew with the pins in place if you put the flat cap head against your sewing machine plate. To remove the cap from the pin by pull it up (I just push my thumbnail in the "slot") The photos here show examples of the pins attaching a leather grommet to fabric, and holding a decorative fabric zipper in place.
