An nicely priced 4 inch bamboo embroidery hoop with metal screw for tightening. This is a good beginner hoop. If you find you love embroidery after you have been doing it for awhile, you can move up to a more expensive polished wood hoop later- because, you know- if you love an art you should have 'the good tools'. But if you are just trying it out to see if you like it enough to keep doing it, then you only need tools that do the job. For years I used embroidery hoops like this one and they work fine.
