Make + Mend Kit with Book
Along with the book "Make + Mend, sashiko inspired embroidery projects to customize and repair textiles, and to repair your home" by Jessica Marquez, I have gathered together the things you need to get started, and to continue for awhile. This is a good introduction to mending techniques susing easy to lean sashiko stitches.
Jessica's book draws on sashiko stitching for her techniques and designs, so I have chosen a package with several sizes of sashiko needles and a leather sashiko thimble for your basic tools, then included two different 8" x 8" traditional sashiko designs printed on navy cotton twill fabric ready to be stitched. (You stitch over the marked lines, wash the fabric, and the markings wash away cleanly, so feel free to stitch only parts of the design and was out the rest, or to cut the pieces into smaller pieces for mending :-)). Also included are six Japanese cotton fabric 'patches' and a 100 meter skein of sashiko thread.About the Book
This is an attractive hardbound book, 6 1/2" x 7 1/4", 153 pages. Published by Watson Guptil, New York. The tools included in this kit are from two dependable quality brands: Olympus,Japan (thread and thimble) and Clover Brand (needles) Olympus needles are equally good, but this Clover sashiko pack contains more variety of sizes.
Part of the description in the front cover reads "....With 15 projects applying modern, on-trend aesthetic to this ancient craft, Make and Mend shows you how to apply sashiko stitching to a variety of projects, such as repairing torn jeans, mending a ripped hem, making a tote bag or a patterned scarf.
