This is one of several La bouquetiere Kurguri-sashi samplers from Olympus, Japan. Kurguri means 'under' and Sashi is 'to stitch'. These kits are completed in two steps. First the fabric is stitched with a hitome-sashi design, then threads are woven under these threads to add depth and texture to the design.

These samplers are very enjoyable projects if you have already stitched hitome-sashi designs and are comfortable with following diagramed instructions. They can be challenging because they are combining two or more techniques plus several sashiko designs and you will likely want to work them in more then one thread colour :-) You can find photographs and instructions for this technique (Kuguri sashiko) in my blogs, but that will not show you the steps for this exact design.

Notes:

You will need 5 skeins of 20 meter Olympus sashiko thread or 2 ball of Olympus this sashiko thread.

Instructions are in Japanese only.

The fabric measures approximately 13" x 13" (34cm x 34cm) when completed.  Hand wash only, dry flat. Press with right side down on padded surface.
