Wagara & Sarasa Momen Fabrics
Use these fabrics for quilting, applique, stitching (especially boro/mending) and making clothing. Momen is cotton. These fabrics are 100% cotton
Wagara Momen
These traditional Japanese printed 100% cotton fabrics (wagara) fabrics are lightweight but have more texture than North American quilting fabrics. The weave is suitable for sashiko and boro stitching, and the traditional colours make it suitable for combining with sashiko stitched pieces in your sashiko project making.
Sarasa Momen
Sarasa was a popular and expensive printed cotton fabric imported to Japan by Portuguese Sea traders. By the early Edo Period (1603-1867) Japanese master designers had begun manufacturing it, and Olympus Fabrics still makes it in Japan. The colours and patterns of their Sarasa fabrics are inspired by those antique Sarasa fabrics.
Olympus Fabrics are high quality fabrics, and you will find many of them in our Japanese fabrics on this site. The are colourfast, preshrunk and machine wash & dry.
