It would be wonderful for making clothing or cushions or anything where you might like to change the design without a seam!  Add a bit of hand stitching and you will be trending with this year's fashions :-D

The 3 patterns run lengthwise on the bolt, so of the 42" width, the horizontal lines are 8 inches wide, then the middle dotted area is 23 inches wide, and the leaves make up the remaining 10 inches.

This cotton Sarasa fabric was produced for Olympus, Japan, by combining traditional Japanese weaving and dyeing methods with modern technology, to creating high quality colourfast fabric. Minimal shrinkage, and machine washable. To achieve the antique colours, the design is printed on a specially prepared background.

This fabric is suitable for clothing, cushions, bags, quilting, applique, machine and hand stitching projects. The texture and colour will give your boro stitching a traditional look.

What is Sarasa?

Sarasa is the Japanese term for calico cotton fabrics, which were imported to Japan by Portuguese Sea Traders. By the early 1600's Japan began to manufacture their own Sarasa fabrics and export them to France. The colours and designs used in this Olympus Sarasa cotton fabric are inspired by those imported fabrics.

The early Sarasa (calico) fabric designs were enormously popular with the Samurai and merchant classes, but because the fabric was high priced, it was used to make small items like tea cosies and small purses. Later as production became cheaper, it was made into kimonos and hangings.
