Sashiko & Weaving "Kikkoh Hanasashi"
This pre printed, ready to stitch Hana-Fukin cloth is a nice project to try stitched plus woven sashiko for the first time. I like this process of weaving an additional thread under the stitched threads. It adds another layer of peaceful meditative movement to the process of sashiko stitching these useful small cloths. It also deepens the texture of the cloth so that as it is washed and dried it becomes increasingly interesting.
The instructions are in Japanese. The diagrams are very good and if you are a confident stitcher they may be enough. I found them adequate. As soon as I can I will write some step by step guides to put in the sashiko blogs here. You will need 4 skeins Olympus 20 meter sashiko thread.
From Olympus, Japan, this is the same cotton fabric as the other Hana-Fukin cloths we carry. It makes a 12 x 12 inch finished cloth which you can add into other sewing projects or hem and use alone.
