Try these good size thin firm cardboard winding cards (2 1/2" X 4") to get your sewing box sorted! Tip: I make a tiny cut in in the card near the top and bottom so I can start and end my threads by pulling the ends into the cut. It keeps them from unravelling.
These cards are easily big enough to wind 2 or three different threads onto - nice for shorter lengths threads, or for keeping co-ordinating threads together.
